What is Large Format CIS

The large format CIS developed for the
purpose of reading wide images is a new device,
which overcome the demerits of demagnification CCD cameras
that used to be mainstream.

Outline of Large Format CIS

CIS was initially developed for the use in documents scanning machines like fax machines, scanners and copiers, and banknote and check reading machines like banking terminals. Those applications can be totally satisfied under a scanning width between 100mm to 300mm.

Along with the popularization of CIS which replaced demagnification optical system CCD, the demand for large format CIS that enables the scanning of large objects, such as large-scale prints and cloth has increased.

Since there is a large volume of reading data in large format CIS, advanced technological hurdles, such as the requirement for high-speed reading must be overcome.

Large format CIS with various specifications that satisfies such requirements is now beginning to appear.

Main Features of Large Format CIS

In order to realize high-speed processing which is the greatest challenge for large format CIS, new technology was applied, not just simply connecting conventional short CIS.

First, we developed a new CIS with an increased number of analog outputs of reading signal from the conventional 1 to 3, further doubled to 6 or more. In order to handle with the increased analog signal processing accompanying with the increased number of outputs, a new high-speed type AFE of 20MHz maximum has been adopted.

In addition to the analog output type, a digital signal product and a camera link interface product have also been developed, which allows free choice according to different applications.

Currently, we offer a variety of erected equivalent magnification lenses for CIS from single row to four rows, which improve the sensor’s sensitivity and luminance, and increase the output signal-to-noise ratio(S/N) that makes high speed possible.
